When I Grow Up
Jan 31, 2011
When I grow up I want to be like Sycamore Street Press, Byvik Ink and Hammerpress. Jake and I love their companies. They both inspire and motivate us. All three have completely different design styles, but all equally beautiful. But most of all I love that Sycamore Street Press and Byvik Ink are a husband and wife team. Yes, when I grow up I want to design and print pretty things on our little letterpress with my husband. Wait, I am grown up. I better get on that.

This week's photo comes from the rooftop of our friend Jillian's apartment building. I had never seen downtown like this before and I love the way this photo turned out!

This past week I had the privilege of designing a logo and business card for my best friend, Ana from college. She is the most fabulous baker and believe me, I know. I got to taste everything she baked during college. My favorite thing about her baking is that she is alway being creative and making up new flavors. She just started a blog and it is all about baking. You can check it out here: Texas Sweet Thangs. Hmm, I think I could go for one of her peanut butter cupcakes right now.

We have an update from the progress of our letterpress! The restoration process is finished, and the base coat of paint has been applied. Here are some pictures from the process:
All that's left is the detail painting and the press should be on it's way to sunny LA. Jamie and I can hardly wait!

This week's photo was taken in Traverse City, MI when we were back there visiting this past fall. The City's downtown is such a quaint place with beautiful old buildings. I love it. I think I could make a habit of hanging out there every afternoon, drinking coffee, and getting lost in a good book.

This is an incredibly well done motion graphics piece. I really hope that I can animate something this well someday.

Here's our first photo of the week.
Every time Jake and make a trip to Home Depot to pick up supplies for our projects, we treat ourselves to Coca-Cola in a glass bottle. But this isn't just any Coca-Cola, it's made with pure cane sugar. Plus glass bottles are simply more fun to drink out of. Enjoy.

Jake and I are starting to acquire a small collection of cameras and lenses. We really enjoy photography and thought it would only make sense to start posting a weekly photo. I've seen some blogs that do this or something similar; but the photos we post will be taken by us. I think it sounds like a fun project, but first let me introduce you to our equipment.
A lot of this stuff was given to us. Jake's dad gave us one of his old flashes that is on the E-P1. My dad gave us the KS Super, a zoom lens and a smaller flash. For Christmas Jake surprised me and gave me the Olympus Pen which is the original film model of our digital camera. We were able to buy adaptors so that our digital camera can use the lenses from the Minolta and Sears cameras. In the upcoming weeks we will be posting pictures taken with these cameras. We already shot a roll of film with the Pen over christmas and are waiting on it to get developed. The first photo will be posted this week.

We ending up going to Ikea this weekend to buy a few things to upgrade our kitchen a bit. And thanks to my handyman husband, everything is already hanging up. Here are the results.
The bars, hooks, plants and pots are the new editions to our kitchen. We like it.
*side note: Those cute J and B mugs handing up are Christmas gifts from our friends Jacob and Erika. Believe it or not, but we bought them the exact same ones form Anthropologie with their letters on it. I think we might be friends.

Well Jake and I are back home from our lovely Christmas vacation. We went to Colorado to visit my family. While we were there, we ate lots of good food, played with my baby niece (although she is not much of a baby anymore) and got hooked on the tv show, House. It was a much needed break that we took full advantage of.
Now that we are back we are still hooked on House (halfway through season 2), we are eating slightly less as good of food and going to work Monday-Friday. So, how many more days until next Christmas? Just kidding (kind of). It's always hard to get back into the swing of things after a holiday. I need something creative to do that doesn't pertain to work. I think I would like to decorate our Kitchen. Right now it is quite bland, just the basics. Everything is stuffed away in drawers or cabinets and you never get to see all the pretty stuff we got for our wedding.
I went searching for decorating inspiration online and found these fabulous pictures:
Right: Design*Sponge
Right: Vintage Home
I concluded I need some open shelves, hooks for hanging, and a few plants. Ikea, I think I might visit you this weekend.
