Photo of the Week: Golden Hour
Mar 31, 2011
One of the coolest parts of living in Los Angeles is golden hour. It makes everything look so, well, golden! After getting home from work yesterday I noticed that the sun was still up; Summer must be getting close!

This pretty much sums up how I've been feeling lately.

Chris is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator who has endeavored to do a drawing a day and post them on his website. I have a huge respect for artist who commit to do something like that. I've thought about it, but honestly I don't think I could do it. Maybe some day.

Morning Brew: Disney Love
Isn't this so cute? They're still going strong after all these years. Take a minute and tell your special someone you love them today. Jake, I love you.

I want a puppy...bad. Lately Jake and I have been dreaming of getting our first puppy. We already know we want to get a Dalmatian. Before we were married, Jake and I have always had a dog around and we miss it. As of right now, we know having a dog isn't practical. We both are working full time and wouldn't have enough time to take care of him. sighhh, we can still dream though.
Be careful! After you look at these photos you will want a puppy too.

I'm a big fan of creative gig posters, even if they're for bands that I've never heard of. I really like the textures of the balloon and the sheep.

These are my new favorite flower. If I would have known about them earlier I would have had them in our wedding. What do you think? Cute?

This week's photo also comes from Venice, CA, but a few blocks off the beach. We walked through the canals and saw rows and rows of really unique looking houses. Not a single one was alike. We think it would be a really fun place to live. I love the idea of being able to walk out the door and hop into a rowboat. This house is one of our favorites because it's covered with lots of greenery.

I found these super creative eCards designed by Will Staehle for the Type Director’s Club. One of my absolute favorite things is when a design is made to look like it was created in a different time period. I love seeing all of the tiny details and (often) imperfections that technology has corrected over the years. These designs not only have that going for them, but they are also terribly clever. Be sure to click the image to see the designs larger.

Last Wednesday Jake and I took off work to go to Disneyland. We've almost lived in Los Angeles for a year and hadn't managed to go until now. My Parents were in town visiting so we thought it would be a good excuse to finally go. Everything in the park was magical! It brought us back to wonderful memories of our childhood. I don't know about you, but Disney basically defined my childhood.
We each got these fun pins for our first visit.
The first ride we went on was Pirates of the Caribbean. It was so much fun. Some of the pirate figures on the ride are originals from 1967.
Next was the Haunted Mansion. To be honest I was a little worried about this one, but Jake assured me Disney would never make a ride for kids that was scary. He was right. It was a lot of fun.
We couldn't help but visit Winnie the Pooh and all his friends from the Hundred Acre Woods. This ride was so cute.
And of course we couldn't pass up meeting Winnie the Pooh. He was just as I imaged, cute and cuddly.
The carousel was classic.
Can I take one of these home?
Wouldn't it be fun to stay in the highest room in the tallest tower?
I'll take them all.
Disney does everything perfectly. Aren't these posters wonderful? The only purpose for that wall is to hide construction; but instead of just leaving an ugly wall blank, they had someone design amazing posters for our viewing pleasure. For a second I dreamed of designing for Disney.
We finished the day with a water light show. It was nothing short of a grand fanale. It was actually probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. They shot lights and water up to classic Disney music. It was magical. Disney music tends to do that. If you are planning on going to Disneyland and want to see the show, make sure you go straight to California Adventure when you get there. You'll need to get a (free) fastpass ticket to get in to the show. They go fast!
...and they lived happily ever after...
Oh and we also upgraded our tickets to passports so now we can go anytime we want. I can't wait!

Spring is officially here. Looks like it's time to clean house, smell the flowers, and catch some butterflies. As for us here in L.A., Spring has brought with it a week of rain, but I guess it will pay off in the end.

Pretty much any kind of cake can make me happy, but cupcakes can make me happy on the go!

We visited Venice Beach last weekend, and found this art wall that people can get a permit to paint on.

Check out these fabulous windows. They're all designed so well and work great as one-color designs. I think I'd go into these stores based purely on the window display. Does it make me silly to want to own a storefront just so I can design a window decal?

We took this photo at Long Beach. It was our first time visiting and we loved this boardwalk along the beach.

Jake and I never really got to experience the world of vinyl records. I think that is what makes them so interesting and foreign.

Now that we have our letterpress, we've been trying to set up a work area in our apartment. I love looking at how other people organize their space. These photos just make me want to turn on Florence + The Machines and do something creative.

Here's a little letterpress from Parliament of Owls to start off your week. We especially love the mustaches. They are so cute and clever.

I loved to play with these as a kid. This old viewmaster and reel was given to me by my grandparents. Jake's dad also has a collection of viewmaster reels as well, along with this same model of viewer. He even got Jake a space themed box set for his birthday once (which he loves).

We are having so much fun with our little press. However, with it came in a huge wooden crate. As of right now it is siting in the middle of our living room. I can't bring myself to part with it. There has to be some good use for it, right? I've been racking my brain and have yet to think of one.
The reason for the post? Well, I was hoping you might share a creative idea. Really any idea would do.
