This year I decided that instead of paper tags I would make these monogram tags and attach them to my gifts. Once the present is open they can be hung on the Christmas tree. It's a multipurpose tag that is also an additional gift. This is not a tag that is going to get thrown away! If you still have some people you need gifts for you can always wrap one of these up. Most importantly they are so easy to make and add such charm to any gift.
You Will Need
- Clay (I got mine from Michaels)
- Letterpressed Cookie Cutters
- Rolling Pin
- Wooden Skewer
- 1/8 in (3mm) Wide Ribbon
- Fine Grit Sand Paper (220 works well)
Begin by rolling out some clay. Start with a small amount because the clay starts to dry out. When you have the clay about 1/4" thick cut out letters with your cookie cutters. Place on a flat surface.
Next take your wooden skewer and punch a whole for the ribbon. Let dry over night.
The next day when the clay is completely dry, take some fine grit sand paper and gently go over the edges to remove any rough spots.
Tie ribbon to each monogram and attach to gifts or hang on your tree. That's it!
LOVE these! What a great idea. I'm having my kids make gifts for their cousins this year, and I love the idea of them gifting each cousin an ornament with their initial!

ReplyDeleteI have my kraft paper and my red/white baker's twine, ready to start wrapping gifts soon. I just hadn't decided what else to do to make my wrapping job unique. Love this idea, and ordering the cookie cutters right now! Will make cookies with them down the road, too.

DeleteLovely! And those cookie cutters are great. Question - is your G cutter the right way round? I read a review that said that the G came out backwards, and wondered if all the sets had that fault?

ReplyDeleteSure! I made one with Pixel's paw print and wrote "Pixel's First Christmas" on it with a sharpie. I think it worked great.

DeleteHi - bought the cookie cutters and got some clay but can't seem to get it to work. I'm not very crafty. I don't understand why the letters are raised on the outside of the cutter instead of the inside. Do you cut with one side and then peel that cut out section up and press the raised letter into that??? Thanks!
