Finders Keepers: Sufjan Stevens Silver & Gold

November 30, 2012

Yesterday I found out that Sufjan Stevens released a new Christmas album this year! I always play his other Christmas album on repeat this time of year. Yes, it's that good! His new Silver & Gold album has 58 songs on it! You can't go wrong with this one.

What are your favorite Christmas albums?

A Few of My Favorite Things

November 29, 2012

Wacom Cintiq - Jake just got this for me and I love it! It sure makes my job a lot easier.

Oregon Chai - Lately I keep this in my refrigerator at all times. So nice on a cold afternoon.

The Hunger Games Trilogy - Just finished reading these a few weeks ago. It only took me a few days. I just couldn't put them down.

International Delight York Peppermint Pattie Creamer - Try this in hot chocolate and I can guarantee you will never be the same.

Cinnamon Scented Pinecones - I get these every year when Fall rolls around. They make our apartment smell so lovely all winter long.

Corene Booties - Just picked up a pair of these on Black Friday. Even though they are technically a slipper the rubber sole allows me to wear them outside too. I just haven't been able to take them off my feet. They are so warm and cozy.

To & From Holiday 2012 Guide

November 28, 2012

Last week at this time I hadn't even started my Christmas shopping, but believe it or not I almost have it all done! If you aren't quite as on top of it don't worry. Here is a little help. Take a gander through the gift guide put out by To & From. There are so many beautiful things in it that I haven't seen before. Now I wish I would have seen the guide before I made up my list for Santa.

Wes Anderson From Above

November 27, 2012

We just watched Moonrise Kingdom for the second time the other day. Wes Anderson films aren't for everybody, but I really enjoy his work. The sets are all so unique and really beautiful to watch. Here is a montage of some overhead shots from some of his films. Just a fun little video for your afternoon.

Charley Harper Christmas

November 26, 2012

Christmas is in full swing here at the Bartlett house. The tree is up, Christmas music is playing, and I even baked a batch of Christmas cookies yesterday afternoon.

I'm really loving these Christmas illustrations by Charley Harper. Aren't they just perfect?

Black Friday Printable: Charlie Brown Christmas

November 23, 2012

I hope everybody had a successful and enjoyable shopping day today. Jamie and I found lots of great deals online this year from the comfort of our living room.

Last year we designed (and I animated) a graphic of Linus' Christmas speech from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Since then we've had lots of people ask where they could buy the print. It wasn't something we had originally planned on making available, but since so many people enjoyed it, we decided to make it a free 8x10 printable download. You can print it off for your own home (or for a friend's) absolutely free and remember all season long the true meaning of Christmas. Enjoy!

Making A List: Christmas Gift Record Printable

November 21, 2012

There are a few smart people out there that have already gotten all of their Christmas shopping done. Then there are people like me that haven't really even started. I always have a hard time choosing what to get people so I end up putting it off hoping the perfect gift will fall right in my lap. Once Black Friday hits, that is when I really start to get in present buying mode.

When I'm out shopping and in the midst of the holiday craziness, I sometimes forget who I've bought presents for and who I still have left on my list. So I made a handy dandy printable that will solve all those problems. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a little elf to help pick out the perfect gift.

Have a happy Thanksgiving everybody and don't forget your stretchy pants!

Simple Ways To Decorate For Christmas

November 19, 2012

I'm excited this week for three reasons: 1. It's Thanksgiving, 2. it's a short work week, and 3. this time next week our apartment will be decked out with Christmas decorations!

On black friday we usually avoid all the crazy crowds and buy our deals from the comfort of our bed. Then the rest of the day is spent listening to Christmas music and setting up the tree. I'm curious to see how Pixel is going to react to all the new things to get into.

Clay Christmas Decorations; Wreath; Glitter Toy Ornaments; Hanging Trees; Christmas Glitter Lyric Banner; Letterpress Letters
In preparation for the festivities, I've been trying to find some simple ways to decorate for the season. I'm going to try and make some of them over the next few days so they are ready for this weekend, but then again I do have a four day weekend to fill up!

Tip: Check back on our blog on Black Friday for just the thing to start your Christmas celebrations and decorations.

Thanksgiving Printables for The Sweetest Occasion

November 16, 2012

Remember last month when I designed some Halloween printables for The Sweetest Occasion? Well I'm excited to announce that Cyd and I will be teaming up on a regular basis to bring you more lovely free printables!

Today I have some Thanksgiving labels along with a matching card for you. The labels are multi-functional and can be used as place cards, buffet food labels or even marking leftovers (that is if you have any). You can download them over on The Sweetest Occasion.

Now bring on some turkey and that yummy canned cranberry sauce! Yes, I did say yummy and I really do mean it.

Green Smoothie

November 13, 2012

There is quite the green smoothie fad going around. I admit I was a little skeptical at first; and I even like vegetables. About two weeks ago I came across a recipe for a green smoothie on Iowa Girl Eats. It had only a few (normal) ingredients in it and they were all things I already liked. So I finally caved and decided to see if this glass of green goop was as good as everyone was making it out to be. And what do you know? It was delicious! I've had one almost ever morning since. That's approximately 20 cups of spinach I normally would not have eaten!

So far I've only tried this recipe. There are tons of different variations out there, but I like to keep it simple. Especially for breakfast when it can be hard at times to make anything. This way I don't have to think about it. I'm sure I will be wanting to change it up a bit soon. What are some green smoothie recipes you recommend?

Hand Lettering Love

November 12, 2012

1. Joel Felix 2. Neil Tasker 3. Scout's Honor Co. 4. Estudio Tricota
5. Matt Lehman 6. Jon Contino
I've been trying to perfect my hand lettering. It really is harder than it looks. These are some of the pieces that are inspiring me. I've been able to use some of my hand lettering on a custom Christmas card I've been designing. You might have seen my sketch if you follow me on instagram

Finders Keepers: A Hip Handmade Holiday

November 9, 2012

It seems like it's getting harder and harder to find just the right gift for my friends and family each year. Something handmade could be just the right solution.

A Hip Handmade Holiday has a ton of great ideas. The pdf book even comes with printables and instructional videos. Amazing right? I better get crafting. Can you believe Christmas is only 6 1/2 weeks away?

House of Harvey: Pixel's Puppy Profile

November 8, 2012

Today our little puppy Pixel has his very own pup profile over on the House of Harvey! What a big boy he's becoming.

Be sure to check out some of the other pup profiles. There are some major cuties on there!

Winter Wonderland Snow Globes

November 7, 2012

Christmas is everywhere right now. Blogs are posting holiday gift guides and Christmas cards. Pinterest is almost completly consumed with holiday crafts and recipes; and the stores of course set up there decorations while the kids were out trick or treating.

Over the weekend I decided to get in on the festivities and make some snow globe decorations for our mantel. I justified it by saying they are really more of a wintery craft than a Christmas one. But then again the calendar might be calling for colder weather but here in California the weatherman sure isn't.

You've probably seen these little beauties around before. Anthropoligie sold them in their store and everyone all at once started making them themselves. So I jumped on that bandwagon and got right to work. My trees didn't come with snow already on them so I added my own with a little bit of white craft paint. I also thought a fawn would be a nice touch.

I get to work on a custom Christmas card for a friend today. I guess I better start listening to Chrismas music to get me the spirit of things! Bummer, right? Who am I kidding?

Watch Me Grow: 23 Weeks

November 6, 2012

I think we are going to have to start changing the composition of this picture soon or else he is going to grow right outside the frame.

DIY Mid-Century Modern Coffee Table

November 5, 2012

For a while now I've been swooning over all the beautiful mid century furniture that's been showing up all over the place. Unfortunately it's all pretty pricey. And we all know what I do when I don't want to pay for something...I make it myself.

Mid-Century Modern style is so clean and simple which made this coffee table super easy to make. I mean you really can't get any easier then this!

You will need:
STEP 1: Start by sanding all of your wood pieces.

STEP 2: Using one of your foam brushes, stain all the wood pieces (We did 2 coats on the panel and only one coat on the legs)

STEP 3: Once your stain is completely dry, use your other foam brush to coat the pieces with polyurethane. Once dry add another coat.

STEP 4: Set the board on a flat surface with the bottom facing up. Measure in 6" from the end and 2.5" from the side. This is where the middle of the bracket will be positioned. Do this 3 more times on each corner. Then screw on each bracket.

STEP 5: Screw on all the legs and turn the table over.

STEP 6: Sit on your couch and prop your feet up on your new coffee table.

Finders Keepers: DIY Eraser USB

November 2, 2012

via Instructables
When I was in college my usb drive was one of my prized possessions. I used it constantly to take files to the mac lab or show my projects in class for critique. I would have totally geeked mine out like this. The best part is, it could even be used as an eraser when sketching. This really is the perfect multi-purpose usb drive for any artist.

Photo Fun with Friends

November 1, 2012

Over the weekend we grabbed our camera, our good friends Brad and Dana, and headed to the park to snap some pictures. Brad and Dana wanted to commemorate their two year wedding anniversary and asked us to take a few pictures of them. We by no means claim to be professional photographers but we sure do have a lot of fun with it.

I actually learned a thing or two from this photo taking experience. Next time we go I hope I can take even better pictures. Here are a few of the pictures we all took of each other. Brad and Dana, let's do that again sometime!
